HELP THE NEEDY

Share the agony, change lives.

HELP THE NEEDY (HENE).

The slums of Makindye division in Kampala, Uganda bear lasting scars from the AIDS pandemic which ravaged Uganda in the 80ís and 90ís. Damp and disease ridden, these slums are home to a generation of children orphaned by AIDS, most of whom live in extended family groups in cramped and impoverished conditions. Many cannot afford education; basic healthcare or healthy food. Help the Needy (HENE) is a Ugandan NGO which was founded in 2002, by a small group of people whose lives were deeply affected by the HIV epidemic. The founders lived near the Makindye slums, and were motivated to assist the very vulnerable people in this community. Today, HENE is an established community based organisation. It is our mission to empower people to improve and take care of their own lives and futures through the provision of education, training and social support in a community setting.

HENE is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity (MAK/060) with Kampala City Council Community Development Board.
